Interested in a Barn Quilt?

The Humboldt County Barn Quilt Committee is a group of volunteers working to encourage the placement and promotion of large painted quilts attached to historical farm buildings in the county.
Objectives
• Preserve Humboldt County’s farm and cultural history
• Promote agri-tourism
• Stimulate economic development of rural communities
• Increase value of rural heritage
Activities
• Display quilts on old barns/farm buildings in highly visible places on hard surface roads at strategic locations across the county
• Assist building owners with quilt pattern selection, design and painting
• As resources permit, help share cost of materials and painting for sponsored quilts
• Promote all barn quilts in Humboldt County through publications, Web site www.humboldtcountybarnquilts.com, media releases and maps
Barn Quilt Categories
1) Committee-Sponsored
• Committee recommends and selects strategic quilt locations based on factors including access to hard surface roads, visibility and historic farm building placement
• A $250 donation is requested from building owner to cover quilt material costs
• Committee will make arrangements for quilt painting
• A cost-share for materials and/or labor may be offered if resources are available
• Quilts will be designated on Web site and printed materials as “Committee-Sponsored”
• Committee will coordinate installation on building
2) Committee-Supported
• Property owner requests quilt assistance from committee
• May be at any Humboldt County location
• Committee may assist in pattern design selection
• Committee may coordinate construction and painting by local group if owner chooses; cost to owner is $250 (materials) and $100 (painting labor)
• Quilt installation is responsibility of owner
• Owner may have quilt designated on Web site and printed materials as “Committee-Supported”
3) Self-Sponsored
• Owner selects pattern, constructs and installs own barn quilt in Humboldt County
• Owner may have quilt designated on Web site and printed materials as “Self-Sponsored”
